HTC's CEO Peter Chou has spoken at length about how he feels the company let itself down with poor marketing. So we assume that getting Funny or Die to make an ad with James Van Der Beek for the HTC One is somehow meant to address this perceived imbalance.

The ad has Van Der Beek hosting a Bachelorette-style show where a woman must choose between a variety of outdated phones before eventually, and obviously, settling for the HTC One.

According to AdAge, the commercial will air on movie screens, hitting around 8000 cinemas in the US between 26 April to 23 May — the first time a Funny or Die production has made it to the big screen.

Going by the comments on the video, it's had mixed appeal, with some viewers rating it as "funny" and others as "Van Der Sellout". You can make up your own mind below.
