Remember Peter Molyneux's strange "game" Curiosity: What's Inside the Cube? Playing more like a social experiment than a game, Curiosity had players tapping away at the eponymous Cube, slowly destroying the 64 million "cubelets" that comprise the virtual monolith.

The more you tap and destroy cubelets, the more in-game currency you collect to spend on tools that let you tap even harder. In the centre of the Cube, waiting to be revealed, is what Molyneux referred to as a "life-changing secret".

Now the Cube is down to its last 50 layers. There's a countdown timer that gives a projected end to the game — which now looks like it might coincide with the (presumed) Xbox 720 launch on 22 May.

Speaking to our sister site GameSpot, Molyneux said:

Bizarrely ... is that the end of the cube — the last layer of the cube — might well be, I mean probably, if you look at our analysis of probability, the same day that the next Xbox is announced. Which would be a bizarre twist of fate.

More than that, Molyneux hinted that the connection between the dates might have even more meaning:

There's an interesting opportunity, possibly, for me to ... well, I can't say any more than that. There may be some words from me around that time. I'm not saying any more.

It's all a bit classic Molyneux: hints, teases and big, vague ideas. But we imagine that it would be worth keeping an eye out for a Molyneux appearance at the next-generation Xbox event later this month. Hopefully without Milo 2.0.
