The film's cinematographer, Matthew Libatique, used several of the cameras to capture different shots during the Monaco race scene. "We set 5D Mark IIs down on the race track and had the vehicles pass by them, crash near them and run right into them. It was very impressive to have the 5D Mark II cameras hold up and then pop-out their cards and get the shots we wanted," Libatique said, as quoted by BroadcastEngineering.com.
Cameras were also mounted to all four sides of the race car used to capture background plates of Tony Stark's race run, and to the front of the car to shoot the final images of Stark's airborne crash. Libatique used padded Pelican cases to enclose the cameras and lenses to protect them during filming. He also commented that due to the camera's small footprint, it was able to get into spots that traditional 35mm production cameras could not.
As for lenses, Libatique stated that he used the wide-angle EF 14mm f/2.8 L and EF 24mm f/1.4 L and the EF 16-35mm f/2.8 II L zoom lens. Footage from the 5D Mark II was combined with the traditional 35mm production cameras during post-production.
