IrDA support in Mac OS X 10.1?: a follow-up

Yesterday, Mats Anderling reported spotting an IrDA.menu extra, although no such menu appeared on his PowerBook G4 running OS X 10.1. Riscky Abacus replied that, while not seeing a menu extra, he did find an IrDA option in Network System Preferences.

In today's mail, several readers, including Mats, reply that they cannot find this IrDA option reported by Riscky. Greg Christopher offers this potential explanation:

"Support is there, but only for older PowerBooks. It still doesn't work on the PowerBook G4. Apparently, it's not working for all chipsets yet. I have a bug logged at Apple, and it looks like it will be fixed for the next revision of OS X."

However, in a posting on MacInTouch, an Apple rep states: "We have no plans for supporting IrDA printing in OS X." This seems odd considering that IrDA files are included in OS X 10.1.
