A reader sent us this perspective on the iPod compared to the Nomad Jukebox. Peter Hillman writes:

"The latest 'low cost' Nomad Jukebox model does not include headphones. The original model included headphones (not very good ones), a carry case, and an extra set of rechargeable batteries. However, the original model cost $500, then dropped to $300, then was discontinued in favor of the low cost model.

Like the iPod, the Jukebox does not have a belt clip. If it did, a person would either walk lopsided or fall over due to the weight and size of the Jukebox (it's not exactly a device that would be convenient or feel good on a belt clip). The carry case for the Jukebox is nearly useless for operating the device since you have to take it out of the case to operate the device. Also, the carry case does not have a belt clip. My biggest complaint however, is that the Jukebox has the painfully slow menu access when playing music, the delay it takes to find songs is horrible."

Update: Ric Spiegel adds: "The iPod is definitely a neat piece of gear. I played with one at the local Apple Store. It's slick, sexy and small, and the interface can be learned in a minute or so. I can't wait to have my own However, the Nomad Jukebox is hardly a dog. I have found that navigation is quite easy and snappy, and actually has more features than the current incarnation of the iPod."
