iPod Shuffle (2G): Audio hiss; DOA units

CNET staff

Audio hiss As has also been noted in several online reviews of the iPod Shuffle second-generation (2G), several readers are reporting an audible hiss during pauses or quiet passages in audio -- a detractor to overall sound quality.

If you have any additional commentary on this issue, please let us know.

DOA units Some users are receiving iPod Shuffle 2Gs that are dead-on-arrival -- an infrequent occurrence that has afflicted other iPod models in the past.

MacFixIt reader Joey Kincer writes:

"After 90 minutes of playing music (plugged into my computer speaker system), the sound abruptly cut out and then went dead. The shuffle appeared to be functioning correctly, as it would still be recognized on my PowerBook, and the LEDs were consistent with the controls, but there was no sound.

"This was the first iPod that went dead on me. I took it in the next day, where they found it defective and I got it replaced. No problems with the new one (yet).
