First you buy the iPod itself. You then feel compelled to go for a snazzy case, followed by a travel system or speakers for playing your music out loud.

Wait!

First International Digitalintroduced a product this week that might just save you a few shopping steps, and some dollars, too.

As part of its "irock!" series, the Chicago-based company on Monday launched its new MusiCase, which for $25 combines two amplified stereo speakers with an iPod carrying case. The case is designed for the iPod and iPod Shuffle, but is compatible with any MP3 player.

When connected to the MusiCase's two internal speakers, the music player becomes a fully portable stereo system, the company claims, powered by a built-in three-watt amplifier. The speakers run on two AA batteries, which provide about 15 hours of music, depending up volume levels. A built-in loop allows you to attach the case to your belt. A detachable carrying strap is also included. The MusiCase is available at www.myirock.com, or at most major electronics retailers.

Reviews so far have been sparse. But an Ipodlounge contributor noted that while the MusiCase seems practical and great for travel, it appears a bit bulky and, well, "ugly." Another contributor wrote that a similar product, made by TDK, has been out for a long time. Sparked by a review of the MusiCase on the Unofficial Apple Weblog, one reader offered details on her more unusual iPod travel case, "a makeup bag that I got through a free gift at Clinique."
