iPod audiobook bug?

Rudis Muiznieks reports an issue that appears to affect mono AAC audio files using iPod mini firmware v1.2 (and possibly 4G standard iPods with the latest firmware):

"I've done some testing with different home-made audiobooks (files that have been converted from MP3s into bookmarkable AAC files) and my iPod mini. I believe I have confirmed a bug in the iPod mini v1.2 firmware that causes the iPod to crash (not wake up from sleep). I've written up the details of my testing here. I have also read in various forums that people have experienced this same issue with 4th gen iPods; however I don't have one so I could only test my mini."
