iPhoto keywords not saved when library backed up

iPhoto keywords not saved when library backed up

CNET staff

MacFixIt reader D. Hirschowitz reports an issue where keywords for iPhoto library images are not properly saved when the photo library is replicated to another volume for backup purposes.

D writes:

"I have fastidiously added keywords to each of my 4,000 pictures in iPhoto (first in 5.0.2, since upgraded to 5.0.4, on advice from the Apple Store tech).

"I don't know if anyone has looked or noticed, but when I make a back-up of iPhoto (CD or DVD) and look at the pictures on the back-up media, none of the keywords that I've assigned to my pictures are in the right places. 'Dog' is appended to a picture of a cat, 'tree' is appended to a picture of the ocean, and so forth. And many keywords are just plain missing.

"Initially, I thought that this might have been machine specific (I predominantly use a PowerBook G4/1.33). But I replicated this issue on two other laptops and two desktops. Further, when I visited the Nashville Apple Store, the tech and I reproduced this issue on an Apple Store desktop.

"I have researched this issue on the Web and found only two other instances of people complaining."
