MacFixIt has had a few readers report that the recent update to iPhoto (bringing the version to 8.0.3) has caused iPhoto to crash immediately upon launching the photo management application.

MacFixIt reader "Gerald E." writes:

"After installing iPhoto 8.0.3, I got iPhoto crash immediately on launch.

The crash log said it was because /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/iLifeSlideshow.framework/Versions/A/iLifeSlideshow

was not found."

Possible solution
MacFixIt reader "Gerald E." continues:
"Indeed, /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/iLifeSlideshow.framework was missing.

So I replaced it from a backup.  Now iPhoto will launch.  I don't know what happened to iLifeSlideshow.framework ... whether it was killed by the upgrade to 8.0.3 or whether it was just some fluke of my own system."

If you do not have a backup available for this solution, try downloading the update from Apple directly and installing it again. As always, MacFixIt recommends completing a stable backup of your entire system before installing any software updates.
