iPhoto 7.0.2 ('08): More on jerky, slow zooming

Slower machines that scrolled well in previous releases are now exhibiting jerky movement.

We continue to receive reports indicating poor performance when zooming in iPhoto '08, particularly when in full-screen edit mode. The problem is typified by jerky movement, or an excessive delay when zooming.

Users report that the problem has not been resolved in iPhoto 7.0.2. One reader writes:

"The 7.0.2 iPhoto update has no impact on full-screen zooming to 100%. It still requires 8 or 9 seconds to complete, and shows the spinning beach ball a few times. Disabling 'Smooth Scrolling' (as suggested by bskowron) has no effect either."

Meanwhile, we've received reports noting that the problem (unsurprisingly) exists primarily on slower Macs. What's disconcerting is that the same Macs delivered significantly better scrolling performance in the previous edition of iPhoto.

MacFixIt reader Daren writes:

"I've noticed the same situation on two different PowerMac G4's. However, multiple Intel iMacs all show smooth transitions. Perhaps a processor issue with the G4s."
