Problems applying update -- fixes Some users have reported problems applying the iPhoto 6.0.6 update. Potential fixes for this issue include:

Make sure you are using iPhoto 6.0.5 In order to run the iPhoto 6.0.6 installer [8 MB], you need to have version 6.0.5 [80 MB] installed already.

iPhoto must be in the /Applications folder As we've noted several times, it's a good idea to keep all applications in the same spot they were originally installed -- usually the /Applications or /Applications/Utilities directory.

iPhoto must be located at the root level of /Applications (i.e. not in a sub-directory like /Applications/Imaging) in order to properly receive updates.

Images from Photoshop Elements cannot be updated -- fix We continue to report on an issue where images that have been edited or created in Photoshop Elements cannot be properly edited in iPhoto after the 6.0.6 update.

MacFixIt reader Jim Dever writes:

"It appears that in some cases this issue can be resolved by downgrading to QuickTime 7.1.2 [...] I talked to Apple then, and they acknowledged the problem was related to QuickTime, but I?ve never seen this documented by Apple or your publication. I reverted to QuickTime 7.1.2, and have since avoided all QT updates including the latest, and I have had no further problems with iPhoto, even with the latest iPhoto update."

Unfortunately, the QuickTime 7.1.2 installer is no longer available from Apple's Web site, so the only option for reverting to this (or an earlier version) of QuickTime is to perform an Archive and Install of Mac OS X 10.4.x, then re-upgrade to the desired version of Mac OS X (as described in this tutorial).

If you are experiencing a similar problem, please let us know.

Photos not displaying, libraries lost (cont.) We continue to report on an issue where photos are not displaying at all in iPhoto after the update to 6.0.6, though they are still extant in the ~/Pictures/iPhoto Library. Our previously posted fix involves rebuilding the iPhoto library, though that solution is not universally applicable.

MacFixIt reader Danny writes:

"I updated iPhoto today and although the iPhoto library appears intact the new iphoto won't load them or indeed the albums I've painstakingly arranged over the years. I've tried rebuilding iphoto but this doesn't make a difference."

Though it doesn't help if the problem has already occured, you may want to backup the following file:

  • ~/Library/Pictures/iPhoto Library/Library6.iPhoto

when your iPhoto library is in a working state. This file can sometimes become corrupted during iPhoto updates. If your photos or entire library disappear after an update, replace the backed up copy as a possible solution.

Photos will not print Some users are receiving the error message "No pages from the document were selected to be printed," when attempting to print in iPhoto 6.0.6. If you are experiencing a similar issue, change the size setting (e.g. standard, full page) and retry printing.
