More on crashes when clicking thumbnails -- workaround We previously reported on an issue with repeated crashes when attempting to double-click on thumbnails in iPhoto 6.0.3. For some users, the issue only occurs when double-clicking specific photos.

It now appears that this issue may not affect files with .jpg and .tiff extensions, so a temporary solution is to convert files to this format before importing them to iPhoto. Many digital cameras have settings to choose which format and naming convention to use for generated images.

MacFixIt reader Mike Pearson writes:

"I was also having the problem with iPhoto 6.0.3 crashing when attempting to import images. I found out that the everything seems to work OK as long as the images are .jpg or .tiff, but .jpe files with the Adobe color gamut will crash the application as soon as it hits those files.

"My temporary fix was to change the settings on my Konica-Minolta 7D from AdobeRGB to NormalRGB colorspace, which creates a .jpg file instead of a .jpe. This will work for me in the short term, and I hope they get a fix up soon, as I really would like to be able to use the expanded color gamut for my shooting.

"For existing images on the camera, I was able to open them and save them as ultra-high quality .jpg files (minimal compression) and then import them. I didn't have any of these images in the library before the problem cropped up, so I don't know what will happen to those who have already loaded them into the iPhoto library, but I get the impression that this may be the cause of some of the weird things that folks are seeing when they try to open their images."
