iPhoto 5.0.x: Continuing issues with color shifting when saving changes; workaround
Users continue to lament a previously reported issue where iPhoto 5.0.x makes unwanted changes to images as editing tasks are saved.
The issue occurs after a user makes changes to a photo (cropping, red-eye reduction, etc.) then attempts to save the image, switching from edit mode back to view mode, unwanted changes -- where an image appears sightly brighter, washed out, or acquires a red hue -- are made.
One reader writes:
"I am having the same problem with images getting washed out when I save changes in iPhoto 5.0.2 on Tiger."
MacFixIt reader Thomas adds
"My iPhoto 5.02 does the same color change as described. And there is no way to return."
In the absence of a patch for iPhoto that corrects this issue, some users have resorted to setting iPhoto's preferences so that another photo editing application (like Photoshop or the shareware Graphic Converter) is opened when an image is accessed for editing.
This can be accomplished via the following process:
- Open iPhoto's Preferences and select to the "General" pane
- Select the option "Double click photo: Opens photo in..."
- Navigate to your desired image editing application and select it
