The jailbreak has been put together by the evad3rs -- which sounds like a 1960s TV show -- and jailbreaks any iPhone, iPad or iPod running iOS 7.0 through to 7.0.4. But before you drop your stocking and unwrap the jailbreak, it seems to have run into trouble.
Although the jailbreak is designed to allow you to download apps from other indie app stores rather than being locked to the Apple App Store, it's run into compatibility issues with apps. The main independent app store is Cydia.
"Many Cydia tweaks are not yet compatible with iOS 7," warn the hardy jail breakers. "Please always backup your phone before installing new tweaks from Cydia as your iPhone could be stuck in the boot process. The situation will improve as developers will update their software."
iOS 7 was revealed in June and released in September. The most radical overhaul ever for Apple's software for iPhone and iPad, the new-look operating system was helmed by the company's design guru Jony Ive and did away with skeuomorphic effects like fake stitching in apps. And it's pastel-coloured. Very, very pastel-coloured.
It's been quite a long wait for an iOS 7 jailbreak: iOS 6 was cracked a day after it was released.
