iPhone 7 to sport water-proofing, 12MP cameras, analyst predicts
New handsets expected to be unveiled this week to feature a faster processor and new True Tone color display, Ming-Chi Kuo predicts.
With just days to go before Apple's next announcement event on September 7, even more details on what could be coming to an expected iPhone 7 are appearing.
A report issued this weekend by a respected Apple analyst predicts that a new iPhone device expected to be revealed this week will include waterproofing capabilities and a new True Tone color display.
KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who last year correctly predicted Apple would launch the iPhone SE, expects the iPhone 7 to have a waterproof rating of IPX7, on par with the Apple Watch, according to 9to5Mac, which saw a copy of the report. The new handset is also expected to be powered by a new Apple A10 SoC running as fast as 2.4GHz.
While screen sizes are expected to remain unchanged at 4.7 and 5.5 inches, they are expected to feature a True Tone display like the one introduced earlier this year on the 9.7-inch iPad Pro, allowing it to render wider color imagery. According to Kuo, the 5.5-inch model will also sport a dual-camera system with 12-megapixel sensors that will enable optical zoom and "light field camera applications."
The handsets will also be available in two new color schemes described as "dark black" and glossy "piano black." The 5.5-inch model is expected to get a power boost with 3GB of RAM. On the storage front, Apple is expected to dump its 16GB and 64GB options for new 32GB, 128GB and 256GB tiers.
Apple did not respond to requests for comment.
