Iomega's advice for startup and shutdown freezes with USB Zip drives

CNET staff
Benoit Heuchenne received the following reply from Iomega regarding problems with his USB Zip drive: The new Uninorth chipsets used in the iMac Dvs, G4s and iBooks have shown lockups with some USB Mass Storage Class drives, including the Zip USB upon shutdown and startup. The only workaround we have to resolve this issue at this point is to boot with the Zip drive detached from the USB port and plug it in when you are in the operating system. Before you shut the computer down detach the Zip from the port also, as this will prevent a lock up. This confirms general advice posted previously on MacFixIt. However, this is the first time we have seen the blame put on the chipsets in the Mac itself.
