Invisible System Folder: follow-up

Invisible System Folder: follow-up

Regarding our previous report of a System Folder mysteriously turning invisible, many readers reported having had similar problems on occasion. One reader had the invisible bit turned on for his entire startup partition! In almost all instances, the problem begins immediately after a system crash. Little else in the way of common threads could be found.

A few readers suggested it was a virus of some sort, although this does not seem likely in most cases. Others suggested that fax software or possibly Apple's Telecom 3.1 Updater were at fault. Another reader suggested that the security program Nightwatch could cause this. Again, this cannot be the explanation in all cases.

The exact cause still remains a mystery.
