New notebooks featuring Intel's chip bundle, the new version of Centrino, will debut on Jan. 19, according to the company. Intel will hold an event in San Francisco to highlight the release.

Sonoma will include a new version of the Pentium M processor for notebooks that will come with 2MB of cache, a chipset that contains features such as DDR 2 memory support and PCI Express for faster data transfer, a Wi-Fi chip that handles 802.11 a/b/g transmission and high-definition audio should PC makers chose to integrate VoIP functionality.
