Intel Capital invests in Czech security firm

Intel Capital said on Tuesday that it has invested $16 million to obtain an undisclosed stake in Grisoft, a Czech security software maker. The investment, Intel Capital's largest in Central and Eastern Europe, is to help Grisoft expand in small-business and consumer markets, according to an Intel statement. Grisoft sells computer security software under the AVG product name. The software is used on more than 25 million computers and sold through resellers and online, according to Intel.

Intel Capital is the venture investment arm of Intel. It has invested more than $4 billion in approximately 1,000 companies since 1991. Last year, Intel Capital invested more than $130 million in about 110 deals, with approximately 40 percent of its investments made outside of the United States, according to the statement.
