Intel-based Macs: Slow AFP connections

Intel-based Macs: Slow AFP connections

CNET staff

MacFixIt reader Michael Conners reports very slow connection and volume mounting times for Intel-based macs connecting to Xserves over AFP (Apple filesharing protocol).

Michael writes:

"When connecting (Intel-based Macs) to our 10.3.9 xserve, we are getting horrible access times for authentication, it takes upwards to 30-45 seconds to make the connection. Afterwards we will get an error message the first time we try to log in with for use, admin user or otherwise. If we click on connect, with the same exact information in the connection window, we get a completed log in.

"If we can get a volume to successfully mount, it takes over 30 seconds to bring it to the desktop. This is way too long compared to our PowerPC counter-parts Now, I am stuck trying to load a disk image from the volume onto my desktop and the finder is locked up and the machine must be restarted. I am guessing that we have some issues with the AFP connections and Rosetta. This isn't a one time occurrence, this has happened many different times while I have tested this machine."
