We continue to track the compatibility of various PowerPC-coded applications running under the Rosetta environment utilized by Intel-based Macs.

The entire list of working and non-working applications can be found in our comprehensive Rosetta Compatibility index.

America Online The Mac OS X, PowerPC-coded America Online client does not work properly under Rosetta on Intel-based Macs.

MacFixIt reader Bill Gershon writes:

"I called AOL Mac Tech Support and was told 'they are working on it' but they didn't know when they would have a fix. I asked if it would work with a broadband connection and was told that it would not function properly."

Apache 2 builds Apache 2 builds from third-parties may have issues running under Rosetta. One reader writes:

"Since installing my new 20 inch iMac, I have not been able to run a local webserver using Apache 2. These are builds from Serverlogistics.com who produce great builds for the Mac."

Speed concerns: Quitting time, processor usage A common problem with Rosetta is the quitting time for PowerPC-based applications. Several readers have reported that programs running in Rosetta take much longer to quit than normal.

One MacFixIt reader writes:

"One extreme case is Call of Duty, it takes ages before the Mac goes to back to the finder, if it does at all."

Meanwhile, it seems that some applications running under Rosetta can consume massive system resources, causing stalls in other applications.

MacFixIt reader Joe writes:

"Whenever I run Yahoo Widget Engine (a PowerPC application), it slows down my Intel Core Duo to a crawl. Though it does work with Rosetta, everything takes 5 times as long to complete."
