Innocuous Spamfire 1.3.4 bug; fixed in upcoming release

CNET staff

Several users have reported receiving the error message: "There was a nilobject error in MFDatabase.close Mail" when attempting certain functions in the shareware junk mail elimination tool, Spamfire. The company's technical support department writes:

"Many users have reported this error in version 1.3.4 and we are working now to fix it. As far as we can tell, it is a harmless error, but it is annoying and may also point to a design flaw in Spamfire that could cause trouble down the road. Your error report has been very helpful to us in tracking down the problem.

"We have released a beta version which we think may solve this problem. If it doesn't actually solve the problem, though, it adds extra debugging code to the error report that gets generated. So these new error reports can help us pinpoint the trouble.

"If you would like to try the new beta, you can download it here: http://www.spamfire.com/beta.html.

Users can also downgrade to the older version of Spamfire in order to avoid the potentially annoying, but not harmful bug: http://www.matterform.com/frames/download/old_spamfire.php.
