Initio Miles 1.06 update: a follow-up

Last week, we wrote that the new 1.06 driver for the Initio Miles SCSI card would fix an extended memory conflict. However, this may not be so. Paul Reitz received the following message from Initio Technical Support regarding the update:

"In fairness, I must admit that no effort was put towards the Virtual Memory issue in this update. We were specifically addressing the 'Greater than 256 Mb' issue and some secondary minor lockup issues.

In conversations with Apple, it was mentioned that Mac OS 8.5 may resolve the virtual memory issue and/or the QuickTime playback issue. However, we have to wait and see about that."

Update: The reader who initially reported the release of the 1.06 driver adds that, at least for him, the virtual memory problem is definitely fixed in Mac OS 8.5.
