Indecent Exposure 13: Inferior exchanges

Why you might want to use filters on digital cameras and how well digital equipment retains value. Plus more pink thinking.

Lori Grunin Senior Editor / Advice
I've been reviewing hardware and software, devising testing methodology and handed out buying advice for what seems like forever; I'm currently absorbed by computers and gaming hardware, but previously spent many years concentrating on cameras. I've also volunteered with a cat rescue for over 15 years doing adoptions, designing marketing materials, managing volunteers and, of course, photographing cats.

Why filter?

Hello! First of all, let me tell you that I love the podcast. My question is the following: I am pretty new to advanced photography (more than simple point and shoot) and I am wondering what the benefits of filters are with digital cameras. I understand the benefits when using film, however, I do not understand what the benefits are for digital since images can be fixed later using software. What are the actual benefits of using filters over simply correcting the pictures afterward using software? Thanks! Once again, love the show! Fred
