Users may experience an issue where Back To My Mac fails to work, even though another computer on the same network may be able to use the BTMM function without any problems. According to a recent post on Mac OS X Hints, this issue could be related to an incorrect time setting on the failing computer.

Back To My Mac uses IPsec to secure IP communications to authenticate and encrypt data streams. The article on Mac OS X Hints relays:

"IPsec tunnels require endpoints to have their clocks synced, or at least to be set to times that are relatively close to one another. "

Thus, if the time is significantly different on the computer you wish to use Back To My Mac with, the protocol will fail.
