iMovie '08 (#2): Crashes when updating iPhoto libary, fix, more

Let iPhoto update its library first

CNET staff

Crashes when updating iPhoto libary, fix Some users have experienced an issue where iMovie crashes shortly after attempting to update (import) movies in the iPhoto library.

MacFixIt reader Dave writes:

"Just installed, launched ok. Asked if I wanted to update existing movies in iPhoto Library. During update process the application quit and now it will launch and then quit."

It appears that this problem can be avoided by first launching iPhoto '08 (7.0.1) and allowing it to update the library before launching iMovie '08.

More on kernel panics/crashes at launch Yesterday we reported that some users are experiencing a kernel panics or application crashes as soon as iMovie '08 launches. A number of users continue to note these issues.

One reader writes:

"iMovie starts up and then freezes while it is loading. Has to be forced quit. Same on both my MacPro and iMac."

Another adds:

"My G5 is a Dual 1.8 GHz. I have the ATI x800 XT and as soon as iMovie '08 launches it opens it kernel panics."
