Imation SuperDisk Installer ROM checking issue

Imation SuperDisk Installer ROM checking issue

CNET staff
Chris Couples writes: There is apparently a conflict between the latest release of Power On Software's On Guard security product (v. 3.2) and the latest iMac ROM upgrade (ROM version 1.2.1). This conflict manifests itself (in our experience) when an Imation SuperDrive is attached to the USB port at startup; the symptom of this conflict is a crash on startup with a Bus Error. Dropping the iMac ROM back to version 1.1.2 corrects the symptom."

I contacted Power On Software about this claim and received the following reply: "The problem is unrelated to On Guard, and is likely due to the fact that the Imation installer did not have ROM version checking in the original version. The installer was built by Apple for Imation. This problem could happen if the user runs the original installer after running the ROM update." The newer installer now does ROM checking.

By the way, Imation has a Troubleshooting FAQ page that covers avariety of other SuperDisk issues.
