iMate version mix-up; Griffin replies Regarding our previous report that iMate Driver 2.1 really appears to install version 2.02f, Ken Stern received this reply from Griffin Technologies: "The guys just forgot to change the version in the Get Info box." The sent him a corrected copy of the software. Unfortunately, he found that 2.1 disabled his programmed F-Keys. He has contacted Griffin about this and is awaiting a reply. Apple System Profiler "secret" Jeffrey Johnson found that, at least with the latest (2.4.4) version of Apple System Profiler, you can drag listings from the System Profile page to the desktop and it will create a clippings file of the contents of that listing. In the case of Hardware Overview, the clipping contains information (such as about Nanokernal version) that is not listed in ASP itself! Update: Other readers note that this feature has been around since Mac OS 8.6. Getting IntelliMouse to work: a follow-up Michael Martin reports that yesterday's suggested work-around for an IntelliMouse that doesn't work after updating to the latest driver software (changing the type and creator of IntelliMouse extensions to ndrv:usbd) worked for him as well. However, once he opened the IntelliPoint control panel, the changed file(s) reverted back to their original state and, on the next restart, the problem returned. [Note: This problem appears to primarily affect those who connect the mouse via a Macally USB card, although we now have a couple of reports of this problem on Macs with no Macally card.] Update: Terry Kopecky offers this suggestion: "All that needs to be done is to make sure the HID Library and USB HID extensions are enabled. They're now apparently required for the IntelliPoint Control Panel settings to be enabled." VistaScan vs. MagicScan If you are having problems with UMAX VistaScan 3.7 (as some users do; see previous item), a MacFixIt reader echoes some old advice: Try UMAX MagicScan instead. It often works even on those scanners that UMAX says should use VistaScan. On a related note, Bill Strohm found that VistaScan 3.5.4 worked for him only if virtual memory was off. iKey update: it's still coming Kenneth Yan informs us that the long-promised Macally iKey update is now scheduled for "the middle of July."
