iMac G5 rev. C (iSight) [#3]: Fan/sleep issues continue?

CNET staff

Fan/sleep issues continue? One of the more irritating issues with Rev A and B iMac G5s was a sequence of events that started with the fans accelerating to high speeds generating significant noise, culminating in an apparent freeze that leaves the system unresponsive. (see our Rev A and B iMac G5 Special Report for more information)

While the issue can't said to be persistent with the new iMac G5 rev C (iSight) models -- which carry the machine model identifier PowerMac12,1 -- we have received a handful of reports indicating what seems to be a similar issue.

One reader writes:

"This is my second iMac flat panel and both now are plagued by a sleep issue which finds the machine hung and the fans blasting away with only a hard restart available. I had hoped that the new machine would be quieter with the new fan architecture and it is."

If you are experiencing issues with excessive fan noise followed by system freezes on the new iMac G5s, please drop us a line at late-breakers@macfixit.com.
