CNET staff

Although, as usual, there is no indication of what it does, an update for the ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro and ATI Radeon HD 2400 XT graphics cards used in some iMacs has been released by Apple.

The company says this update is "for iMac computers with an ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro or ATI Radeon HD 2400 XT graphics card installed, running Mac OS X 10.5.2 or later."

The new release is available as an 848KB standalone download.

Already some users are reporting problems installing the update. MacFixIt reader bob O'Driscoll writes:

"I have a mid 2007 Al iMac with an ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO. Software Update tells me my software is up to date. I tried downloading the iMac ATI Radeon 2600/2400 1.0.1 firmware update, but got a message that it was not needed when I tried to install it. The ROM revision for my Radeon HD 2600 PRO is 113-B2250F-219."

Problems or solved issues after the update? Please let us know.
