iDisk downtime -- switching IP address to fix

CNET staff

Several users have reported significant downtime for iDisk, a component of Apple's .Mac service.

MacFixIt reader Tom Hughes writes:

"For myself and, according to the ,Mac message boards specifically in the iDisk section, many users have been unable to connect to their iDisk since last Thursday (27th). This means that services such as iWeb publishing, syncing, and the .Mac FTP functionality are currently unusable.

"One would think that Apple could fix this problem in less than four days but to date no resolution has been forthcoming."

One potential workaround for this issue is to use an alternative IP address for accessing your iDisk. This can be accomplished by going to the "Go" menu in the Finder and selecting "Connect to Server" then typing:

  • http://17.250.248.77/(your .Mac username)

This should properly mount your iDisk.
