Iconic Opera House images re-created in Lego

To celebrate the 1 September launch of the massive Lego Sydney Opera House, Lego has re-created famous images from the building's history.
On 1 September, a giant, 2989-piece Lego Sydney Opera House will join the toy company's Creator Expert line-up of the world's most incredible buildings. At 28x63.5x38 centimetres, it's going to be one of the biggest sets Lego has created (although the top honour is still held by the massive 5922-piece Taj Mahal).
To celebrate, Lego Australia has re-created two photographs of the Opera House, from it's very earliest days to its most recent.
The first is from the 1960s, when the building was nearing completion. The Sydney Opera House took 14 years to build, starting in 1959. The second is from this year's Vivid festival, when the Opera House's white sails formed the canvas for a spectacular light show by the Spinifex Group.
Danish Lego feels a special connection to the Sydney Opera House; its designer, Jørn Utzon, is from the same country, and designing the model was a labour of love. We had a chat to design manager specialist Jamie Berard — stay tuned next week for our fascinating interview.
