iCal 1.5.4: iSync crashing with Symbian phones

Reader Jason Rawlins reports a very specific issue with iSync that only started occurring after installing iCal 1.5.4 under OS X 10.2.8, and which only seems to occur when using iSync with a Sybian-based mobile phone:

"Ever since upgrading my OS X 10.2.8 with iCal 1.5.4, iSync 1.5 crashes on startup. Reading discussion groups on the Web, iCal 1.5.4 seems to have caused a major problem with Symbian phones and OS X 10.2.8. They now crash iSync. Apparently this is a problem Apple are trying to rectify. And it doesn't seem to affect Panther 10.3.x The only solution I found was to remove iSync using Apple's iSync Beta 1 uninstall utility, then re-install iSync 1.5 and do not add a Symbian phone. (It works fine with my Palm T3, but as soon as you add a Symbian phone device to iSync, crash. It discovers the phone fine, but it immediately fails, literally, as the phone is added. It refuses to start from then on.)
