iBook trackpad problems?

iBook trackpad problems?

CNET staff

Reader Lily Iona MacKenzie describes an issue with the trackpad on her new iBook and, more significantly, an apparent confirmation from Apple that hers isn't an isolated problem:

"I'm wondering if you have any information on the erratic behavior of the trackpads on the new iBooks. I have a brand new machine and have had trouble since day one with the cursor having a mind of its own, jumping all over any page where I'm typing and even opening files or programs that I haven't clicked on. None of these things are consistent, but they are definitely maddening for someone who is a writer and uses her computer mainly for word processing. I spoke with an Apple product specialist and she admitted there was a problem with the laptop trackpads."

We appreciate feedback from readers; however, before writing, note the settings in the Trackpad screen of Keyboard & Mouse preferences, which includes an option to "Ignore accidental trackpad input."
