Hulu to partner with pay-TV operators for content bundling?

A new report says that the video streaming service may be in talks with big name pay-TV providers to bring full seasons of TV shows to customer's cable set-top boxes.

Hulu could be coming to a cable set-top box near you. According to The Wall Street Journal, the online TV streaming service is said to be in preliminary talks with a handful of pay-TV operators about possible partnerships.

These talks are said to be about Hulu potentially bundling its Hulu Plus subscription service with pay-TV subscriptions. According to the Journal, the streaming service is purportedly in talks with Comcast, Time Warner Cable, Cox Communications, AT&T, and Verizon.

Apparently, Hulu hopes that any deal would let cable customers get its service via a set-top box, according to the Journal. Cable customers would also be able to take advantage of Hulu's service -- which makes full seasons of TV shows available -- and is something pay-TV providers don't typically offer on their own.

Hulu has serious competitors in the streaming business, like Netflix and Amazon, which might be one of the reasons why it could be looking for pay-TV partners. The company recently hired new CEO Mike Hopkins and he has already been putting his spin on the service's dealings, such as allowing nonpaying customers to watch videos on mobile devices and hiring a new financial chief .

Details on possible bundling deals are still scant and the Journal wrote that any movement in this direction is still months away. When CNET contacted Hulu, the company declined to comment.
