HTC One Android 4.4 KitKat update due 'end of January' 2014
HTC has confirmed that KitKat will be on its flagship smart phone within a few months.
HTC One owners in the UK mark your calendars -- HTC has confirmed that its flagship smart phone will be getting an update to Android 4.4 KitKat in a few months' time.
Yesterday HTC tweeted, "We're working with our local carriers to begin the rollout of Android 4.4 and Sense 5.5 for the #HTCOne from end of January 2014."
That likely means we'll start to see British blowers getting the update through February -- though you may have to wait a little longer depending on your network, as carriers often need to tweak Android updates before beaming them out to customers.
UK HTC One mobiles started getting the Android 4.3 update towards the end of October, though one EE customer took to Twitter to say that last update still hadn't arrived.
Today KitKat reportedly started rolling out to Google Nexus 4 smart phones.
KitKat is the very latest version of Android, and makes its grand debut on the excellent (and reasonably-priced) Nexus 5. The new software doesn't pack many jaw-dropping new features, but Google boasts that it requires less memory than previous versions of its robot-powered operating system.
That means -- in theory -- that more older mobiles should be able to handle KitKat, though whether manufacturers will decide to bring the update to less cutting-edge mobiles remains to be seen.
