HTC Droid Incredible gets Android 2.2 update

Verizon confirms rumors that the HTC Droid Incredible is finally being updated to Android 2.2.

The HTC Droid Incredible, one of the more popular Android-based smartphones on the market, will now be running the most advanced version of that operating system.

Verizon Wireless started rolling out Android 2.2 as an over-the-air update to Droid Incredible owners on Friday. The company didn't say how long it will take for the rollout to be complete. But given that Android 2.2 was unveiled in May and started landing on some rival handsets in June, Verizon would be smart to get it out as quickly as possible.

Android 2.2 is a relatively substantial upgrade over Android 2.1. Upon downloading the software, Droid Incredible owners will have Flash 10.1 support, 720p video recording, and the ability to use their smartphone as a 3G hot spot for up to five Wi-Fi devices.

The HTC Droid Incredible is now the third Verizon phone--after the Motorola Droid and Droid 2--to receive the update. The Motorola Droid X is scheduled to be updated to Android 2.2 next month.
