HP printers and the "thin line" problem in landscape mode: fixed in OS 9?

In Troubleshooting Mac OS 9, we state that the HP DeskJet 970 2.0a printer driver for the 970Cse/970Cxi (HP DeskJet 900 USB/AT Series) has a fix for Mac OS 9. But Joachim Schaller added: "It still has no fix for the 'thin lines' problem when printing in landscape mode." However, Charles Stillman replies that, according to Eric Schlosser of HP, the thin line problem was in the Mac OS and is fixed in OS 9:
"The defect you describe is a known QuickDraw defect that originated on the PPC's in 7.1.2. It is fixed in 9.0. It doesn't matter what SW app you are running. The defect is that 1 raster of data gets printed in the wrong place, usually it's the last raster of a band gets displaced to the first raster of the next band printed. Rotation is the solution but there are two different rotation values to use. on is .05% and print in landscape. But as you noted, you get some jagged edges. My favorite is to rotate 90% and print in portrait. This works much better to my mind and to my eye."
