HP offers Response, Workaround for ScanJet Processor Usage Issue

HP offers Response, Workaround for ScanJet Processor Usage Issue

CNET staff

Earlier this month, we reported on a problem where Hewlett Packard's ScanJet Manager software component severely drained processor cycles, in some cases using up to 90 percent of the system's resources and causing dramatic system slow-down.

MacFixIt reader Jeff Fishbein received a reply from the company's Technical Support department, who offered the following response and potential workaround:

"This issue is currently under investigation by HP, however we do have a suggestion for getting around this issue.

  • Click the Apple menu and select System Preferences.
  • Click Login.
  • Select HP Scanjet Manager in the Login Items list and click Remove.
  • Launching HP Precisionscan Pro can then use the scanner. HP Precisionscan Pro is located in: Mac HD > Applications > Hewlett-Packard > HP Photo and Imaging Software > HP Scanjet Software.

"We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused."
