HP Chromebook 11 now under £200 at Amazon, PC World

HP's latest notebook to run Google's no-frills software, the Chromebook 11, has had its price slashed from £230 to £200 on Amazon. PC World is flogging it for £230 with a £30 cashback deal too, until 4 December.

If you're after a simple device for browsing and email, but fancy a full keyboard rather than a touchscreen tablet, you'll do well to find a better option for under £200.

Chromebook is Google's name for the genre, which are basically laptops running its Chrome operating system -- a bit like Android -- rather than Windows or Mac OS. Most manufacturers call their products Chromebook, and they're all very similar.

Samsung's 2012 effort can be had for £20 less, but this HP version looks classier and has a better screen. It's a fairly basic 1,366x768-pixel, 11.6-inch display, but its IPS tech makes it brighter and clearer.

Inside there's a pretty weak 1.7GHz mobile processor, 2GB of RAM and just 16GB of storage, which you can't expand because there's no SD card slot. But that's not really the point -- this is a laptop you just use for browsing the Web, with Chrome's add-ons the only apps you can install. If you want tonnes of games, you'll be better off with an Android tablet such as the new Nexus 7.
