HotSync problems with a PalmPilot III: a more extreme solution

Regarding our previous item on solving HotSync problems with a Palm Pilot III: If the solution described does not work, Palm Computing Online suggests trying the following procedure (thanks, Ken Takei):
  1. Hard reset the Palm unit: Hold down the green power button. Press the reset hole for a few seconds, then release the reset hole. Release the green button.
  2. If this was correctly done, you should get a message "Erase all data?" Press the upscroll button to indicate "yes" and follow the on-screen instructions.
  3. Delete both the Install and Backup folders located in your hard drive's Pilot Desktop 1.0/[username] folder.
  4. Launch Pilot Desktop and go to HotSync/Custom. Change the setting for datebook, address, memopad and todo to "Desktop overwrites Pilot." Set System to "Do nothing."
  5. Run HotSync again. HotSync should now restore the default settings automatically. [I assume that, after this all done, you can return the Custom settings back to their previous values and that all will remain well.]
