Hotline Transport error: a follow-up

Regarding yesterday's report of a "Transport error" with Hotline, several readers replied:

Adam Sheck and Joseph Prisco confirmed the problem. Adam added: "Happens upon login and at least every five minutes. If I do a download all night, I have to click the "ok" box about thirty times to clear it (or force quit)."

Nicholas Straker explains: "The Hotline client is attempting to download an advertisement. If it cannot find the server if you have a firewall installed or the ad server is down, it shows this error. This becomes a huge problem on Windows NT when running the Hotline client because it halts the entire machine for a few seconds when it fails."

Benn Overkamp confirms the explanation: "I believe the error is in relation to the banners Hotline used. Hotline used to access the banner services every so often to bring a new banner for unregistered users. Now, apparently, I see none and get that error. With a bannerless carbonized Hotline, however, these errors do not occur."
