Holograms discourage illegal parking in disabled spaces (Tomorrow Daily 252)
One company's goal to plant a billion trees with the help of drones, Disney Research's new app for bringing coloring books to life and a hologram that discourages illegal parking in disabled spaces.
Happy Monday! We know we said our new set would be go for today, but sadly, we've encountered some construction issues and have had to delay our fabulous new relaunch. For the time being, you'll have to make do with our tasty mini-episodes...
Here are some links and notes for all the things on the show today:
- BioCarbon Engineering, a company based in the UK, wants to plant a billion trees in a year...with the help of drones. One drone will map the target location in detail while another deploys and shoots seed pods into the ground. Why drones? BioCarbon says it's less expensive and less dangerous than hiring humans to trek to more inhospitable locations and replant trees.
- Disney Research released yet another incredible video showcasing fun new technology. This time, they created an augmented reality app that makes coloring book characters leap off the page in 3D, complete with real-time updates as you keep coloring. Sadly, the app isn't publicly available yet, but we may see it incorporated into future toys and games.
- Ad agency Bird Strategy and disability-rights advocate group Dislife have partnered to create a wheelchair-bound hologram to confront drivers attempting to park illegally in disabled spaces. The companies believe the holograms are a good way to remind drivers of the real human beings harmed by illegal parking in disabled spaces.
- Back It Or Hack It: Salto is a bodysuit full of sensors, and its creators say it's made for motion capture that's both affordable and easy to set up. But is it "affordable" enough for them to meet their campaign goal?
