HHS: Verizon patches up Healthcare.gov outage
The US Department of Health and Human Services says the third-party vendor hosting the health care site has gotten things up and running.
A Verizon data center experienced a network failure over the weekend that caused the insurance application part of the site to go dark, according to multiple reports on Sunday. On Monday, the HHS released a statement saying that things were up and running again.
"Verizon Terremark successfully resolved the issue with the networking component overnight, and as of 7 a.m. ET this morning the Data Services Hub was fully operational," HHS spokesperson Joanne Peters said in an e-mailed statement, according to Bloomberg.
The health care Web site has gotten its share of criticism for its rocky launch. There have been calls for Health Secretary Kathleen Sebelius' resignation, and it was that 5 million lines of code for the Web site would need to be rewritten.
