Helvetica font: PostScript vs. TrueType issues

CNET staff
Ted Gordon writes: "Adding PostScript fonts to OS X can cause problems, especially with the Helvetica font as well as other fonts that also have a TrueType version already installed. Adobe is aware of the problem. For example, Adobe replies on this web page:

"InDesign, like several Adobe applications, will choose the version of the font with the most glyphs when there are multiple versions available. In this case, that means the system TrueType version. However, since this suitcase only has two fonts (regular and bold), you lose the oblique versions in InDesign, which won't use 'fake' obliques.

If you want to avoid conflicts, and you want to use the Type 1 font, you may be able to de-install the system font and replace it with the Type 1 version. Note that you should leave some version of Helvetica permanently installed, since some OS X apps expect it to be there."
