HBO's 'Westworld' teaser trailer drops during 'Game of Thrones'
Get ready for violence, meditations on the nature of existence and even the odd Shakespeare-quoting robot when "Westworld" premieres in October.
HBO has revealed the teaser trailer for "Westworld", the show it clearly hopes will be its next big hit. Airing during the most recent episode of "Game of Thrones", it sets a grim tone for the Michael Crichton-directed show, based on the 1973 film of the same name.
Not unlike another famous Crichton work, on the surface "Westworld" is about a futuristic themepark where something goes wildly wrong with the exhibits -- in this case cowboy robots.
But when a show gets billed as "a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the future of sin", you hope for a little more than just androids and sixshooters. Luckily, the teaser shows off a Shakespearean quoting robot ("these violent delights have violent ends") to let us know that something a little deeper is on the menu.
Produced by the nigh-ubiquitous JJ Abrams, and with a cast including Anthony Hopkins, Evan Rachel Wood, James Marsden and Ed Harris, we'll see if "Westworld" will fill that "Game of Thrones" hole in our lives come October 2016.
