'Hamilton' creator to star in 'Mary Poppins' reboot

The creator and star of crossover Broadway sensation "Hamilton," Lin-Manuel Miranda, has been cast alongside Emily Blunt in Disney's "Mary Poppins" reboot.

Hamilton is coming to a theater near you, kind of.

The creator and star of crossover Broadway sensation "Hamilton," Lin-Manuel Miranda, has been cast in Disney's "Mary Poppins" reboot. The movie is expected to hit theaters December 25, 2018.

Emily Blunt will play the lead role of Mary Poppins, which was previously played by Julie Andrews in the 1964 classic. Andrews went on to win the Academy Award in 1965 for Best Actress for her portrayal of the witchy babysitter...so, like, no pressure, Emily.

Miranda's role, on the other hand, is a new character. He'll play Mary's friend Jack, a "street lamplighter." No word on whether the talented composer, playwright and songwriter will contribute to the soundtrack or writing of the movie, however, according to his tweets he's already learning some of the music for it. "Hamilton," which tells the story of American founding father Alexander Hamilton, is nominated for a record 16 Tony Awards.
