Haier has become the world's leading appliance manufacturer without two key products: ovens and cooktops. But the Chinese company announced Thursday at the IFA trade show here in Berlin that it will soon correct that. Haier will begin to sell gas cooktops, induction cooktops and ovens in the UK, beginning in 2017.

The company hasn't yet released prices for these products or dates when they might appear in other countries.

Though these products will be the first Haier-brand large cooking appliances, the manufacturer recently bought a company known for its ovens and fridges. In June, Haier made news in the US with its $5.6 billion acquisition of GE Appliances. The purchase was an attempt for the company to gain a stronger presence in the US, where it has only 1.1 percent of the appliance market.

Haier will conjure up five induction and four gas cooktops. The ovens will offer the following features:

  • White LED touchscreen display
  • Auto-cooking function: select the type of food and the oven automatically sets the appropriate temperature, time and mode
  • Soft-close hinges on the oven door
  • Matte or stainless steel finishes
