GTA V for PC pops up on Amazon, but it's not yet official

Grand Theft Auto V might finally be coming to PC -- the blockbuster crimulator has popped up on Amazon Germany, listed for Windows and costing €60 (£50).

The game appeared on the French version of the mega-retailer's site too, according to gaming blog DualShockers, but was quickly taken down.

The German version is still up, but is missing a release date, and proper PC-marked box art. Oddly, it says it's compatible with Windows 7 and Vista, but not Windows 8. It's clearly not an official listing -- compare the Xbox 360 page for GTA V, which lets you mouse over a PS3 logo and see what that box looks like.

Rockstar, the game's maker, hasn't confirmed a PC version is even in the works, or that there will be versions for the PS4 or Xbox One. Here's what it had to say last summer, a few months before the game's release:

"We don’t have anything to share about the possibility of a next-gen or a PC platform release at this time and we are completely focused on delivering the best possible experience for the consoles people have right now."

Nevertheless, evidence is growing that a PC version is imminent, with an apparent change log for the Windows version coming to light recently, as reported by PC Gamer. The log refers to 64-bit and 32-bit versions, and DirectX 11, Microsoft's graphics-handling software.

The game broke records when it arrived in September last year, making $800m in its first day on sale. Its multiplayer mode suffered severe server problems when it went online a month later, however. It's calmed down a little since, and enabled millions of players to engage in the kind of hilarity documented in GameSpot's excellent GTA Diaries series.
